SUSPECT IN J.M.J MURDER HIT WITH 17 YEARZ
A suspect in the slaying of hip-hop legend Jam Master Jay was sentenced Wednesday to 17 years in prison for a spree of robberies.
Federal prosecutors wanted the judge to slam Ronald (Tinard) Washington with a more severe sentence by factoring in the unsolved murder of the Run-DMC rapper, as well as a previous killing Washington allegedly committed in 1995.
Brooklyn Federal Judge Nina Gershon declined to consider the murders in her decision and stuck to the sentence recommended by federal guidelines.
"One might think if it was such an overwhelming [murder] case, someone would have prosecuted him, instead of hanging a murder on a string of robberies with a BBgun," Gershon said.
Jam Master Jay, whose real name was Jason Mizell, was shot in his Hollis, Queens, music studio on Oct. 30, 2002.

TREACH QUESTIONED IN NJ SHOOTOUT
The police questioned Anthony Criss, known as Treach from the rap group Naughty by Nature, after a report of gunshots on West Runyon Street Tuesday afternoon. Officers pulled over a dark Hummer being driven erratically and found Mr. Criss inside wearing a bulletproof vest. Mr. Criss told the officers that he was not being shot at, Chief McCarthy said. The chief added that there was no weapon found in the car, although a pistol was recovered nearby on the street.

Former Chopper City Boys group member Rapper VL Mike was shot to death earlier today (April 20) in New Orleans
VL Mike, born Michael Allen, 32, was murdered when a man shot him to death, as he exited his vehicle between Paris Avenue and Overton Drive.
The rapper was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
VL Mike, who resided in New Orleans and Atlanta, was featured on The Chopper City Boyz' debut album We Got This and recorded tracks with rappers like Webbie and The Game. - All Hip Hop.Com

KANYE WEST SIGHN'S PRODUCTION DUO
After winning a highly-publicized Internet beat-making competition, Wrightrax found themselves in the same studio with Kanye West while they were working with another G.O.O.D. Music artist Big Sean.
“From working with Big Sean, we got a chance to get in the studio with Kanye while he was making the Graduation album and he said he wanted to sign us,” Deuce Wright explained. “We were in Atlanta and he was just playing some of our tracks and in the first ten minutes, he was like, 'I wanna sign ya'll.”
Though the signing with G.O.O.D. Music is a nice look for Wrightrax in the early stage of their career, they’re hoping to do big things for Hip Hop. “We just wanna be one of those staple powerhouses in music. We want to be spoken of in the same sentence as Timbaland, Quincy Jones or, of course, Kanye West.”
Diversified producers listed, yes, but the Deuce and B. Wright are up for the challenge. “We got bangers, head crackers, R&B baby makers. We're all over the place.”

“I feel it is necessary to clarify the comments that were made during my recent Blender magazine interview since they have been misrepresented.
Anyone who knows me and my character, knows that I am not a conspiracy theorist or, by implication, a racist. My comments about ‘gangsta rap’ were in no way trying to suggest that the government is responsible for creating this genre of rap music. The point that I was trying to make was that the
term was over-sloganized by some of the media causing reactions that were not always positive. Many of the ‘gangsta rap’ lyrics articulate the problems of the artists’ experiences and I think all of us, including our
leaders, could be doing more to address these problems including drugs, gang violence, crime, and other related social issues.
Additionally, regarding the AK-47 reference, AK-47 is a nickname given to me by some of my friends in jest, as an acronym for Alicia Keys and a metaphor for wowing people with my music and performances, “killing ‘em dead” on stage. The reference was in no way meant to have a literal, political or negative connotation.
The recent implications about me are too radical and too dramatic a departure from whom I have continually demonstrated myself to be. I work so hard and give so much of myself to bring about positive change to this world, and I only wish those efforts received as much press and attention
as the misinterpretations of the Blender article.”

NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony was arrested early Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Denver Nuggets forward was arrested on Interstate 25, police said. He was alone in the car and pulled over for weaving and not dimming his lights.
Detective Sharon Hahn said Anthony failed a series of sobriety tests. He was charged with DUI, then taken to police headquarters before being released to a "sober responsible party," Hahn said. Anthony is due in court May 14.
